Crazy Dream Films is in pre-production for director Norman Kern's debut short film. We plan to enter Sundance submission this year. A dark romantic comedy feature is also in development. We apprcieate all our frineds & family's resources and funding supports (March 30, 2007).
Santa Cruz world premiere Pantomime Sleeping Beauty directed by Paul Whitworth opens on November 18. This is the Norm's third collaboration with Director Whitworth. The sound design will include 16 speakers and live microphones on stage. UC Santa Cruz just purchased their first SFX unit (built and designed by Norm), and Shakespeare Santa Cruz gets to use this system first for the Sleeping Beauty production. It will be a great show. Norman Kern (Award winning Sound Designer) was brought in to re-design Magic Theatre's world premiere Moving Right Along, opening October 28, (directed by Elaine May and Jeannie Berlin) starring the Emmy and Golden Globe winning Marlo Thomas and celebrated actor and Oscar nominated director (On Golden Pond) Mark Rydell (October 23, 2006).
We will be working on our 5th production of the thriller The Woman in Black (Sept 7 - Oct 1). We are looking forward to meeting the artistic team at Monterey Peninsula Pacific Repertory Theatre in August (May 3, 2006).
Storefront theatre AlterTheater's Summerland is showing at San Rafael downtown fourth street through May 14th. Currently Norm is getting ready for tech The Long Christmas Ride Home by Paula Vogel for Magic Theatre (April 2006).
Norm received four nominations and won two awards for the 2005 Bay Area Critics Circle Awards. He won sound design for Charlie Cox Runs with Scissors and sound design for Noel and Gertie. Norm's other two nominations were original score for Charlie Cox Runs with Scissors and sound design for River's End. Marin Theatre Company's River's End recieved nomination for Ensemble Performance and Center Repertory Company recieved nomination for Entire Production. We would like to congratulate our friends (Julia Brothers, Stacy Ross, Anthony Fusco, Charles Dean, George Maguire, Joan Mankin, Nancy Carlin, Ken Ruta, Joy Carlin, Kate Edmunds, Anna R. Nelson, Barbara Damashek, Lee Sankowich, Mark Hanson, Andrea Bechert, Giulio Perrone, Kurt Landisman, Cheryl Coons and Chuck Larkin) for their nominations/winning the awards (March 2006).
Killer Joe received great review from Chronicle. This succesful production, directed by Lee Sankowich, has great cast with Black and white noir visual and Norm's terrific sound design and original music (January 2006).
